Annual Edition 1998 - The Pegasus
Pegasus is the wonderful winged horse that sprang from the blood of the Gorgon Medusa as she was beheaded by Perseus. And since the time of the ancient Greeks, he has been a symbol of the link that exists between us ordinary mortals and heaven. As we learn in the myth, Pegasus carried Bellerophon to immortal fame. One morning, he awoke with golden reins in his hands, a gift from Athene. Astride the winged horse and airborne, he then slew the monster Chimera with his bow and arrow. After this phenomenal victory, Bellerophon fell victim to his own pride. He took it upon himself to fly with Pegasus to heaven, the home of the gods, as if he too were immortal. Zeus was so indignant that he sent out a hornet, which stung the winged horse so painfully that he bucked and threw his rider back to earth. Pegasus, however continued on his journey into the heavens where he became a constellation, pulling the chariot of Zeus, the father of all gods.
Please note that Pegasus must stand upright on his hind legs. The piece is so delicately balanced that any other position is unstable and could lead to damage. Besides, correctly placing Pegasus on the ornamental display shows him off to the very best advantage. The display is available from Crystal Fox and measures 70 x 150 x 50 mm. In addition, you now have an opportunity to round off your collection perfectly: the decorative crystal title plaque will add a wonderful final touch to your "Fabulous Creatures" trilogy. To view this and other new arrivals, stop in and visit Crystal Fox, located on Historic Cannery Row, in Monterey California, across from the beautiful Monterey Plaza Hotel.
